Oh my gosh, I wasted a couple of years with this mistake and I hope you are not making it.
Once you stop it and move forward you will have more time to actually do the work you are meant to do, become better at it, and have stronger results.
Catch yourself when you are doing it. It still creeps up on me, although now I catch it quicker and shift. You can do the same.
